Dancer’s prayer (a poem from the dance floor)

Thank you
For darkened rooms
Thank you for sparks
For phases of the moon
And thank you
For hooks in the sky
For beams that glint
For that look in your eye
Thank you for tools to fly
For rules of the floor
obeyed by die hard night guard
For bright shard of gleaming light
Piercing dark, giving sight
to frightened, blighted passengers
of this our swift sphere
Thank you for its rhythms
Thank you for its atmosphere
Thank you for its crystal clear mornings
dawning over spangled spectres
Newfound inspectors
of flecks of dust that are us

(I wrote this while on the dance floor at Wire club in Leeds, UK. Full immersion in music and rhythm is one of humanity’s best and oldest medicines. Long may its administration continue.)
