The Mine

Bid me safe passage, my love
as I descend into these my darkest places
The mine that brings my nightly labour
as I chip chip chip away

Split bit slips astray from bedrock
Glistening things my labour does bring from wedlock
of carbon and crushing weight

That rushing, fateful pressure
and the pushing, graceful pace of time
squeezing life’s matter into fuel and finery

A fool can finally sit fine when he finds that he’s
defined by the finest of binary souls

If you can concede that the darkness you need
for to feed fuel to fire with diamond and coal
