Hunter’s Moon

Moon crouches low behind cloud
Snow leopard preparing for pounce
White and speckled
Ash-bedecked Bedouin bedding in
to beloved bedlam
Beleaguered bantam battles bloated Philistine

“Giant’s jeering head is mine!” he cries
gargling brine in benign noon light
O’ dearly benighted blight
Be mine beneath the moon tonight
Take torch to station where beams alight
and lighten a little Lowry

Leopard leaps, is allowed to devour me
Envelop developing flower he
sees souring sunshine
To spend but an hour on knees at the shrine
Uneasily defined divine vineyard
flows with the wine of a mind turned inward
