Gallowsman’s lament

Eyes twitch, swim lateral lengths
Stilling clatter of a fence vaulted
Offense falters as chamber empties

Body removed, here enters
tears of the boy at the gate
Pleads with forest to forego fate
until later

Stiff breeze stifles leafy sentries
Through centuries, trees treat tremor
of trembling terror that cocoons every man

To add to that the eyes
Such startled cerulean sorrow
as today’s battlefield will witness tomorrow

Please do borrow those eyes
Lest they burrow to bottom of mind
Floating evermore above this bed of mine
