Afloat; Bound for the Horizon

Shimmering, surely, she sits at the bar
between corpse of dying star
and far-out, forgotten ex-fighter

Lighter flares
glares, glints through dry gin
She begins softly to sing
soulfully of sin and of things coming in
through the steel clad door

Sadly, soaring chorus never came
Made way instead for the porous blame
we lay at our own doorway

Pouring away dues overpaid
Setting sail on trade winds
Maiden sings, but never brings
attention shift from drifter

Sails silently on
Wind whispers warning
“You may never find land”
